The Annapurna Conservation Area (ACA) contains some of the world’s highest peaks and the world’s deepest valley-the Kali Gandaki River Valley. It is the Nepal’s largest protected area of 7629 sq. km. The nearest town is Pokhara, some 30 km to the south. Access is by road from Pokhara Naudanda, Nayapul, and from then onwards by foot. The ACA has an entire habitats gradient from sub tropical Sal forest to perennial snow harboring different forest types with 1226 plant species including 55 endemics, 30 mammals and over 470 birds.

Equipment List

Binoculars: Invest in a good pair of binoculars with a comfortable grip, appropriate magnification (usually 8x42 or 10x42), and quality optics to get a clear view of birds at a distance.

Spotting Scope: For long-distance birding, a spotting scope with a tripod can be invaluable in providing detailed views of distant birds.

Field Guidebook: Carry a bird field guide specific to the region you're visiting. It should include illustrations, descriptions, and distribution maps of local bird species.

Notebook and Pen: Keep a birding journal to record your observations, including species, behavior, location, and date. This helps in keeping a birding checklist.

Camera and Telephoto Lens: If you're into bird photography, a camera with a telephoto lens (300mm or longer) can capture stunning bird images.
