10. Upper Mustang Trek

One of the most distinguished trekking experience because of its chartreuse terrains, dry and windy landscape, the Upper Mustang Trek will make you feel like you are in the badlands. This remotely exotic isolated region with the most well preserved Tibetan Buddhist religion in practice in the entire world was once the Kingdom of Lo.


9. Annapurna Base Camp Trek

The second most famous trekking trail in the country is the journey to the Annapurna Base Camp. Notoriously famous for its mountains and several destination along the way like Pokhara which offers amazing leisure activities apart from the regular trekking, the “Goddess of Plenty”, which got its name from Sanskrit meaning “full of food”, have bewildered the trekkers from all over the world.


8. Everest Base Camp Trek

Who doesn’t want to see Everest up close? The highest mountain in the world and perhaps that is the reason why it is also the most famous trekking in the country. One cannot see the likeness of the Khumbu regions with its wonderful scenery, the famous Namche Bazaar which is also known as the “gateway to Everest”, Tengboche and Dinboche, this trail includes all the best elements of trekking to the base camp of the world’s tallest peak. Thousands of people from all over the world come here to gaze at the magnificent mountain every year and some even try to scale it.


7. Lakes of Gosaikunda

The route to sacred Gosaikuna Lake with its rocky terrains, stony boulders, lush forest and rugged landscape, begins from Dhunche and is one of the most popular trails in the Langtang region. Best time of the year to do this trek is during the autumn or monsoon season when it is less cold and there aren’t any snow on the way. Along the way, you can visit Yak farms for local cheese. Most of the travelers are very amused by this lake because the water is warm in cold season.

You pass through lush forest, rhododendron trees, stony boulders, rugged landscape, and encounter with the locals of the place. Besides, you will get the chance to visit yak farms and local cheese factories. The fascinating thing about the lake is that the lake water is warm in cold season.


6. Mardi Himal Trek

It has only been few years since this trail was discovered and has suddenly gained more popularity for the short amount of time it takes to get up close to the mountains. Not far from Pokhara, the trekkers have to stay along the ridge which makes the climb less daunting. One can choose to homestay for a unique experience, walk inside the forest and gaze in awe at the beautiful mountain hovering above.


5. Dolakha – Kalinchowk trek: 3-4 days

For those who do not have a lot of time to go to the northern mountains, the trek from Dolakha to Kalinchowk which houses a popular Hindu shrine, is a very popular trail because of its chilly rocky hills which gives the trekkers a feeling like they near the mountains.


4. Makalu Base Camp Trek

The fifth highest mountain in the world – Mount Makalu is like a four sided pyramid and is located southeast of Mount Everest on the border between Nepal and China. The trek through Arun valley makes the trip to base camp a very special journey because very few travelers come here due to its remote location and hard trekking trails.


3. Kanchenjunga Trek

The Kanchenjunga Trek offers one of the most beautiful terrains for hiking and adventures in its weather beaten off-trail routes. The third highest mountain in the world, Kanchenjunga which lies partly in Nepal and partly in Sikkim, India. Also called the “Five Treasures of the Snow” after its five high peaks, Kanchenjunga has always been worshipped by the people of Darjeeling and Sikkim. One of the 6 mountains with altitude over 8000 meters in the world, the Kanchenjunga Trek offers lush and beautiful vegetation and varieties of flora and fauna found in the eastern region of Nepal. Four main glaciers radiate from the peak.


2. Everest Gokyo Lake Trek

A trail less traveled in the Everest region is the Everest Gokyo Lake Trek which diverts from the regular path taken by most trekkers but allows you to cherish the beauty that lies in the magical colorful lakes of Gokyo. These oligotrophic lakes are the world’s highest freshwater lake system composed of six main lakes and are considered sacred by both Hindus and Buddhists.

Perhaps the most popular trekking routes in the entire region is the Annapurna Panorama Trek, known for its panoramic views of the massive mountain range. It is also one of the easiest treks to do as it takes you to heights where altitude sickness is rarely encountered and lets you bask in the mountains up close. Waking up early in the morning, trekkers often go visit Poon Hill to see the rising sun amidst the mountains. As the rays of the rising sun strikes the ivory peaks, the snowy mountains turn molten gold and the whole experience is heavenly.
